SNAP Food Assistance
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program administered by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) division. SNAP offers food assistance to eligible, low-income individuals and families. Seneca County DJFS processes SNAP applications and determines eligibility. - To apply ONLINE and/or submit VERIFICATIONS, please visit your Ohio Benefits Self Service Portal at https://ssp.benefits.ohio.gov/
- If you prefer to drop off your application or mail to our agency, please download a copy of the application HERE.
If you need EMERGENCY Food Assistance, please come to our agency. We may be able to process your application the same day and provide you with referrals to other local resources.
An agency representative will contact you for an interview to process your application. Certain items such as citizenship, income, resources and expenses must be verified. Normal processing requires that benefits be issued or the application be denied within 30 days.
Once approved, many individuals may be required to participate in our SNAP Employment Training Program in order to continue receiving SNAP benefits.
Seneca County DJFS is committed to investigating Public Assistance Fraud in our county. This includes Individuals who mislead eligibility caseworkers, lie on applications, or buy/sell/trade SNAP Benefits. If you suspect someone is fraudulently receiving assistance, please report it by calling 419-447-5011, ext. 2303 or submit a complaint online by visiting the following link.
Cash Assistance
Ohio Works First is a time-limited cash assistance program for eligible families through the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program, which emphasizes Employment, Personal Responsibility, and Self Sufficiency.
If you qualify, the amount of assistance you’ll receive will be based on the number of people in your family and your family’s income. OWF cash benefits are limited to thirty-six (36) months.
